Canine Obedience Training Classes

NEW LOCATION: Classes are being held at the North Iowa Fairgrounds in the Olson Building in Mason City.

From I-35 going South
Exit 194, turn east on Hwy 122. Go 5 miles to stop light on Eisenhower Ave.
Either turn left at light and take entrance on right or
continue through light on Hwy 122 and turn at next left under fair gate.

From I-35 going North
Exit 183, follow Hwy 18. Take Eisenhower exit and turn north.
Follow Eisenhower Ave. 2 miles to Hwy 122 stop lights go through lights and entrance is next right.


Cost of Classes:
$75.00/1st dog
$50.00/Conformation Class
$55.00/2nd dog (same session)
$55.00 (re-enrollment of dog that has
previously taken classes through MCKC)


Classes Offered:
 Young Puppy Training (Puppy Pre-school) Time: 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Advanced Puppy Training (Puppy Kindergarten) Time: 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Beginner's Obedience Training (Basic 1) Time: 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Rally Obedience Time: 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

** Each student will be assigned by the Training Committee to the Obedience class
that best suits their dog. Those wishing to enroll in the Conformation /Handling
class will need to specify that on the application. ** 




Obedience Class Information

Young Puppy Class: This is a class for puppies between the ages of 2 months and under 6 months old.  Focus will be teaching the owner/handler to train the puppy using positive training obedience techniques. 


Advanced (Older) Puppy Class:  A class suited for the 6 to 10 month old puppy.  Topics covered will be pack leadership skills, the use of voice commands and hand signals to teach the puppy basic obedience commands and manners, behavioral issues and problem solving, socializing the puppy, discussion on maintenance grooming, plus using obstacles for confidence building.


Beginner's Basic Obedience: This class is for adult dogs that have not previously completed a formal training class, or for dogs that have completed other formal training but still need further conditioning.  The Beginner's Obedience class is designed to teach the owner/handler to train their dog to be a good companion for years to come by using commands such as:  sit, down, stay, come, and heel, among others.

Rally Obedience: This class will be working on improving basic obedience skills using exercises from AKC Rally Obedience and Beginner's Novice. Stations will include sits, downs, turns, fronts, and finishes etc.

Conformation Class: This class is for purebred AKC registered, show quality dogs and puppies. This class will teach both you and your dog how to compete in conformation and will give you both valuable practice before you attend an actual dog show. Your dog will learn how to stack, stand for judges examination, and gait.
